PHILIP MCLAREN is a Kamilaroi man, and both his parents are Kamilaroi from Coonabarabran in the Warrumbungle Mountain region of NSW. His first novel, Sweet Water - Stolen Land (University of Queensland Press, 1993; revised edition Magabala Books, 2001 ), won the David Unaipon Award for Black Literature. Three of his books are available in French and “Utopia” has just won the prix Récits de l’ailleurs, à St-Pierre-et-Miquelon.

Philip will be introduced by CLAIRE de ROBESPIERRE who has a doctorat in English Studies (Australian Literature) and currently works as a literary agent and film translator. Her knowledge of Australia is extensive and in 2008 she spent a year exploring the Australian outback by four-wheel drive.
